AgriSmart, Inc. ? Changing the Face of a Continent
During the 16th century, the Songye migrated from the Shaba area, which is now the southern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They settled on the bank of the Lualaba River, on a savanna and forest-covered plateau. Divided into many subgroups, the 150,000 Songye people are governed by a central chief assisted by innumerable secret societies. The traditional Songye tribal statue gift from DRC Governor Gentiny Ngobila Mbaka to AgriSmart is in a classic hieratic posture with the hands placed on a pointed abdomen and a horn on top of the head. The figures are used to ensure success, fertility, wealth and to protect people against hostile forces. The Songye sculptural style is one of intense dynamism and vitality, and the works of Songye craftsmen are often used during various ceremonies.Merci Gentiny Ngobila Mbaka de nous tous chez AgriSmart!
